Dual-mode energy controller

The 5610/240/4K8 energy controller is designed to save energy consumed by fluorescent lighting, claiming to save up to 25-30% by operating lights in 'economy mode' without sacrificing visibility, while extending the life of the tube, ballast and fitting and reducing its temperature.

The controller is claimed to be simple and quick to install and easy to retrofit, with no modifications required to be made to the light fittings. Any number of units can be installed per site.

The controller features a 'fail-safe' mode, preventing system-wide failure from occurring, current sensing for stable lamp switching and voltage sensing for 'brownout' minimisation.

The unit operates in one of two modes - 'normal' and 'economy'. In normal mode, the standard 240 VAC supply voltage is applied to the load. After a short time has passed to allow all lamps to strike and warm up, the voltage applied to the lamps is reduced and the energy controller enters economy mode. When running in economy mode, the supply voltage is decreased by approximately 15% of nominal to reduce energy consumption.
