NECA NSW Excellence Awards

The NECA NSW 2007 Excellence Awards were held recently, where contracting firms were recognised for their innovation and skills in some very diverse projects that included Sydney's iconic Opera House and historic Town Hall.

"This has been an exceptional year for NSW in terms of the variety of projects and the challenges our contractors have faced across communications, industrial, commercial and domestic projects," said Lindsay Le Compte, CEO of NECA NSW. "The overall standard of OH&S was consistently first-class, with none of the finalists experiencing any lost time injuries, despite some inherently dangerous situations in which they needed to work."

"These awards give us a chance to applaud the best contractors, and I am particularly pleased that one has gone to a regional member, based at Culburra Beach."

This year's winners were:

• Domestic — Project Connection Australia for The Residence, Sydney
• Small Contracting Business — Brian Hayward Electrical for a Vincentia home
• Industrial — JRC Electrical Services for Vinidex Manufacturing Plant, Bomen
• Voice/Data Small Project — FDC Technologies for Medtronic fit-out North Ryde
• Voice/Data Large Project — Fredon Industries for Sydney Data Centre installation
• Commercial Small Project — Barnwell Cambridge for Paspaly Pearls, Martin Place
• Commercial Medium Project — Bass Electrical for upgrades and installations, Sydney Town Hall
• Commercial Large Project — Commercial Energy Services for Sydney Opera House main switchboard refurbishment
• Judges' Choice Award — McCalls Services, McCalls Home Entertainment Centre (Penrith) for creating new business opportunities for the industry.
