Profitap has released the ProfiShark 1G+, a pocket-sized, portable troubleshooter offering precise latency testing for field engineers.
Designed with USB 3.0 (5 Gbps) and low CPU usage in mind, the device can capture full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet traffic at wirespeed, directly to a laptop without the bottleneck of an aggregator tap. The company states it also surpasses all standard NICs in capture mode, as it catches any tag and encapsulation without altering the frames.
Featuring a GPS synchronised capture card for laptop, the GPS function allows real-time analysis of aggregated traffic. The device can also tag packets with UTC-based, GPS-linked, nanosecond resolution timestamps. A PPS input is also possible for increased NTP-based timestamp precision, a simple way to synchronise units in a local area.
It uses Wireshark compatible timestamping software as well as major GNSS standards (GPS/GLONASS) and includes ProfiShark Manager designed specifically for the product. Used in combination with other analysis software, it allows statistical network analysis and diagnostics, and provides configuration options for traffic capture, timestamping, port diagnostic and port control.
