Record attendance at Mobile World Congress

Mobility continues to be an increasingly hot topic, with more than 53,000 unique visitors from 104 countries attending the Mobile World Congress Shanghai in late June. The three-day exhibition and conference featured 550 exhibitors and the conference program attracted over 4000 attendees.

The event was held alongside the Shanghai Digital Information Festival and the Smart City Expo, which explored the development of smart cities, including the role of mobile communications, the Internet of Things, urban solutions and smart homes.

Organisers say that attendees were given the opportunity to build knowledge, gain insights and share best practices. The educational programs focused on subjects including connected vehicles, devices, digital commerce, drones, graphene, IoT, 5G and next-generation networks, mobile entertainment, mobile security, video, virtual reality and more.

As a certified carbon-neutral event (under the PAS 2060 standard), MWC is said to be the largest carbon-neutral exhibition and conference in Asia. The focus was on reducing environmental impact, reducing energy consumption and waste in printed materials, encouraging re-use and recycling, the utilisation of digital signage and working with the event centre and exhibitors to minimise the overall carbon footprint. Organisers will now pursue recertification, calculating the event’s total carbon footprint and offsetting any outstanding emissions.

Don’t miss out next year — the 2017 Mobile World Congress Shanghai will be held in the week of 26 June.
