The Rofa 91-488/196 Switching Coat is an arc and flash-resistant garment that has been designed to be worn by workers who work on switchgear or who perform switching in substations or on switchboards with high fault currents.

The coat is manufactured from non-flammable Proban 330 gsm fabric that has been certified to the EN531/533 standard.

The EN531/533 standard requires that all garments submitted for EN approval must be tested to their applicable level, which in this case includes a real switchboard causing a real arc while the garment is on a manikin.

The entire garment - the fabric, stitching, placement of pockets, zips and buttons - all play a part in how effective the coat is as protection against electrical arcs and flashes, not just the fabric alone as other standards require.
