Power management for UPS

Tuesday, 01 July, 2008 | Supplied by: Opengear

The Network UPS Tools power management software has been included in the Opengear range of console servers, adding to its overall power management offering for data centres and remote branch offices.

The system is claimed to provide secure monitoring and control of distributed UPS hardware from all leading vendors. In addition, each UPS has serial, USB or ethernet console ports to allow other devices to monitor their status.

The console servers also provide out-of-band access so that, in the event of a power failure at a remote location, an administrator can still control the site’s power infrastructure, as well as administer all the servers and networking infrastructure.

The system can be configured to initiate automatic graceful shutdowns, or alert administrators of power disruptions impacting UPS and report UPS battery status, so they have time to manage manual shutdowns.

The system also provides a web interface tool that simplifies configuration and enables UPS hardware to be monitored locally or remotely.
