Insulation, continuity and resistance tester

Saturday, 01 November, 2008 | Supplied by: Power Parameters Pty Ltd

The Hioki 3490 analog insulation, continuity and resistance tester has been designed for use by both industrial and domestic electricians in keeping with the testing requirements of AS/NZS 3017.

The instrument features an LED-lit analog scale enabling it to be read in darkened environments and standard 35 mm long insulated-sleeve test pins, so they can be used to probe in distribution boards without removing breaker covers. An optional remote control probe that has a ‘test on/off’ switch, and LED to illuminate the area to be connected enables insulation tests to be performed in confined and dark spaces.

The tester is equipped with 250, 500 and 1000 V test ranges providing 100 and 4000 M

Ω insulation resistance ranges. It also has 3 and 30 Ω resistance ranges. The 30 Ω range is particularly suited to the 5 and 15 Ω resistor polarity check of GPOs, while the 3 Ω range allows accurate earth loop impedance testing as specified by AS/NZS 3017. The tester is supplied with a flip-cover instrument case allowing the storage of plugged-in probes and safe storage of the instrument in a toolbox.
