The AT-XEM-2XS SFP+ and AT-XEM-2XT dual 10G ethernet expansion modules for the x900 Series and SwitchBlade x908 switches.

The expansion modules complement the existing XEM series of expansion modules, maintaining the same levels of functionality and resilience while offering users the choice between a fibre transceiver and a copper version based on a twinax cable with the XEM-2XS. The range is suitable for users who have a legacy network based on copper cabling who wish to invest in new equipment without upgrading the entire network.

The SFP+ XEM supports both fibre-optic and twinax copper, which may result in reduced power consumption and lower latency.

The AT-XEM-2XS SFP+ module, used with a twinax copper cable such as the AT-SP10TW1, AT-SP10TW3 or AT-SP10TW7, give a cable distance of 1, 3 or 7 m respectively. For longer distances, the AT-XEM-2XS or SFP+ fibre transceiver allows for distances over 7 m. For medium-range distances, the AT-XEM-2XS allows copper connections to be made up to 100 m over high-quality UTP cable. While the twinax connector has limited cable length, 10G links can be used to connect to high-performance switches or as interswitch links to overcome this issue.

Allied Telesis claims the AT-XEM range allows more connectors to be physically mounted in a small space. All future Allied Telesis Gigabit products will be based on SFP+. The modules are available in Australia from Anixter, Pacific Communications and WhiteGold Solutions.
