Business for electricians continues to grow
According to Sensis, data from its online directory service yellow.com.au, business for electrical contractors continues to grow, with searches for electricians up 24% nationally in the first four months of 2008, compared to the same time last year. In 2007, there were 1.1 million online searches for electricians.
The biggest increase was in the Northern Territory with 57% growth in searches, followed by Western Australia with 29%, Queensland with 20%, Tasmania with 18% and ACT, NSW and Victoria each with 17% growth.
The data also showed that searches tend to peak each year between October and November and drop slightly in December as tradesman and many others take their annual break.
Yellow Online product manager Isaac Pfitzner said the increase in searches towards the end of the year is likely to be due to a last-minute rush to get projects completed before Christmas, a time when the building and construction industry typically takes a well-deserved break.
