Brisbane Markets Limited (BML) has selected Todae Solar to install a 1.06 MW rooftop solar system through a winning bid brokered by Solar Choice. Todae Solar was selected in a competitive tender process through a winning bid brokered by Solar Choice. Construction on the system is expected to commence early in 2015.

“As an organisation, Brisbane Markets Limited has been looking at alternative energy sources to reduce our dependence on grid electricity and our exposure to the massive cost escalations we have seen in recent years,” said Andrew Young, CEO of BML.

“We do believe that solar power will be a key part of the future electricity mix and after a number of feasibility assessments considered that the time was right to move with the installation of a sustainable energy platform. We do believe that ultimately, we will have a significant portion of our energy generated from our own rooftop solar installations. Given the current energy landscape, we decided to initiate this pilot project to show our leadership within the local and wider communities.”

“We look forward to delivering the 1.06 MW project for Brisbane Markets that will hopefully act as a catalyst for other organisations to seriously consider generating their own power through solar,” said the CEO of Todae Solar, Danin Kahn.

“We are excited to work with Brisbane Markets to deliver this groundbreaking solar project. Being selected to install Australia’s largest privately owned rooftop system on the prestigious Brisbane Markets is testament to Todae Solar’s leadership position.”

When questioned about the tender process and why BML selected Todae Solar, Young said, “We have a due diligence process which seeks to ensure that we find the right partner in all our capital expenditure projects. This resulted in an intensive evaluation through a competitive tender to find the right partner with the capabilities but also the right fit for our organisation. Through this process we felt extremely confident in Todae Solar, given their leadership position within the industry. Combined with their best-in-class technology and outstanding reputation in the commercial solar sector, Todae Solar was selected as the preferred supplier for this landmark project. We are excited to be working with Todae Solar and look forward to the construction of the system on our roof.”
