Innovative electric strike set to revolutionise the world of access control

Lost cards and fobs are the Achilles heel of any access control system. And it’s an absolute pain to deal with when it happens, no matter who you are.

For facility managers these lost credentials can equate to a loss of hundreds of dollars in static guard fees while you wait for a technician to come and delete/replace the credential from your system. For technicians, a lost credential can mean an unwelcome weekend or late-night call-out. Until now, however, this has been the only solution to securing your site when a credential has gone MIA.

A strike of genius

RMD Innovations, an Australian mob with a truly out-of-the-box attitude to product design, has developed an electric strike to take the headache out of a lost credential situation. The revolutionary 3200 Electric Strike features an in-built keyed cylinder, which can be used to quickly and easily lock out the access control system in the event of an emergency or lost credential situation.

No more annoying weekend interruptions for technicians needing to attend site. And no more wasted funds on static guard fees for facility managers. Wave them all goodbye with a flick of the wrist, and the turn of a key.

Overhyped? No. Override? Yes.

The RMD team didn’t stop there. Those clever clogs also designed the strike to perform a key override function.

In the event of a hardware or system failure, users can still open the strike by turning and holding the key in an anticlockwise direction. This releases the lip of the strike to allow immediate easy access. The strike returns to its normal state of operation after the key has been removed.

Endless installation possibilities

A lost credential scenario is just one example of how the RMD Electric Strike can be put to use. All kinds of access control conundrums can be solved using the 3200 Electric Strike and some installation ingenuity.

For example, when used as part of a simple access control system, the 3200 Electric Strike can be used to easily override a pre-programmed time zone in case of emergency or unexpected schedule change such as the early closure of business.

The ability to lockout access through an entry point has many different types of scenarios. You can give the reception team the added peace of mind of being able to quickly lockout an entry point in case of an emergency. The same security can be useful in the retail sector quickly with the turn of a key.

Or what about overriding a press-to-exit button? The 3200 Electric Strike can do that in a jiffy. Saving you the time and effort of installing a timer.

This broad application potential means that the 3200 Electric Strike is suitable for use in areas such as:

  • Schools and higher education facilities
  • Government buildings
  • Offices and commercial buildings
  • Retail stores
  • Under the hood

For the technically minded amongst you, the 32000ABK12N (12 V fail safe) and 32000EBK12N (12 V fail secure) feature the following specs:

  • Non-monitored
  • Fail Safe or Fail Secure
  • Available 12 or 24 V (12 V standard)
  • Can be keyed to restricted systems
  • Continuously rated solenoid
  • Cycle tested to 500,000 operations
  • Industry standard footprint
  • Keyed 6-pin cylinder
