Legrand Soliroc heavy-duty, protective frames

13 May, 2011

Soliroc is a range of heavy-duty, protective frames to deter vandals from damaging wiring devices installed in exposed, public and unsupervised spaces. The metal alloy finish provides a strong resistance to scratches, graffiti and lighter flames. To deny unauthorised access to wiring devices, curved edges make it difficult to gain a firm grasp of the protective frame and plugs cannot be removed once installed. For additional security, there is also an option to have lockable flaps to cover the mechanisms.

Protecting against electrical surges - 20 things you should know

07 October, 2010 by Paul Stathis

All electrical installations are subject to a frequently distorted electricity supply. Uncontrollable anomalies such as lightning strikes and electromagnetic interference can and do distort the AC supply into buildings. Some can be catastrophic, destroying equipment from a single surge, while others can be too small to notice on their own, but have a cumulatively detrimental effect on equipment that inexplicably fails over time. But there are simple ways to deal with these challenges.

PD Devices MDSP3 surge protector

16 December, 2009 by

The PD Devices MDSP3 series surge protector devices provide protection against incoming high-voltage spikes and slower rise time disturbances for three-phase 415 V circuits. They are designed for use on incomers at main switchboard level and can be combined with PD devices suitable for lower transient capacity at sub-distribution board level.

Harmonics - fighting the enemy from within

01 December, 2009 by Paul Stathis

The push for ‘greener’ electricity through more sophisticated electrical technologies has, in many cases, increased the negative consequences of harmonics on our electrical infrastructure. Electronic ballasts for lighting, switchmode power supplies for PCs and variable speed drives for motor controls are becoming ubiquitous in our homes and workplace. But while they’re improving our energy efficiency, they’re also making the electricity supply dirty.
