Active harmonic filter

The Schaffner ECOSine Active 60 A filter is designed for harmonics mitigation in commercial and industrial electrical installations where loading can change rapidly and unpredictably.

The filter can ‘unload’ the neutral from unwanted triplen harmonics and reduce phase current in risers, reducing energy loss in conductors and in upstream gear including switchboards and transformers. This makes it suited to major installations such as hospitals, banks and other organisations where large IT loads can be expected.

By decreasing voltage distortion from the main reticulation, the filter provides reliable operation of voltage-sensitive loads. The filter absorbs harmonic components originating from connected loads in the three phases and neutral. Absorbing harmonics in the neutral is essential in that generally loads are not balanced or vary over time, thus causing a neutral fundamental power frequency component and third and higher harmonic components. The filter is therefore suitable for installation at the sub-distribution board level, as well as for individual loads.

The filter employs a fast harmonic absorption algorithm capable of responding to load variations and harmonics to the 50th order, within 300 µs.
