Top precincts for solar growth revealed

Monday, 17 January, 2011

TransGrid publicly welcomed the recent release of a new study that identifies the best potential areas in New South Wales for large-scale solar power development.

The NSW Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW) released its Pre-Feasibility Study for a Solar Power Precinct recently, in which TransGrid played a key role in developing as a member of the report’s steering committee.

TransGrid Executive General Manager Michael Gatt said that TransGrid’s involvement in the study was based on the company’s ongoing commitment to facilitate the connection of new generators to the electricity grid, adding: “TransGrid understands that one of the most significant technical issues in the feasibility of solar precincts is the connection of large-scale generators to the NSW transmission grid.

“The DECCW report will help proponents of new solar generators make informed decisions about the lowest cost options to connect to the NSW transmission grid. The report is really about helping generators make informed decisions about their investments.”
