Strong industry response to ACT solar facility EOI

Tuesday, 14 July, 2009

The ACT Minister for Energy, Simon Corbell, announced that there had been a strong industry response to the government’s proposed solar power facility, with 18 expressions of interest submitted.

“The real potential for Canberra to have a significant renewable energy sector has been confirmed by the large number of expressions of interest, with proponents from the ACT, interstate and internationally,” Corbell said. “The Department of the Environment, Climate Change, Energy and Water will now undertake the detailed examination of the EOIs throughout July and August and report to Cabinet.”

It is expected that a request for detailed proposals will be issued in September to selected respondents from the EOI process.

The response to the calling for EOIs follows the community consultation sessions held in July. Corbell added: “Those sessions showed overwhelming support for the solar power facility along with an appreciation that the ACT government was conducting proper and meaningful consultation with the community on the proposal.”
