Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel cogeneration installation complete

Simons Green Energy has completed the installation of a 70 kWe cogeneration system at the soon-to-be-opened Rydges Sydney Airport Hotel. As part of the new International Airport precinct, the hotel has adopted a range of environmental initiatives in line with the Sydney Airport Environmental Management Strategy and will officially open in May 2013.

From the initial design stages, Simons Green Energy’s engineering team worked closely with the asset owner, Denwol Group, as well as with the appointed builder, Lipman, to ensure a smooth installation and optimum system performance.
The cogeneration system at Rydges Sydney International Airport Hotel will deliver the following benefits:

  • Provide back-up power in case of grid failure
  • Reduce the hotel’s energy costs significantly
  • Reduce carbon emissions by up to 251 tonnes per annum
  • Have an expected operating life of over 20 years
  • Deliver low operating costs
  • Operate at 85% energy conversion efficiency
  • Deliver an attractive return on investment
  • Ensure operational safety through its advanced control and monitoring systems

“Our objective in following this path was to show some foresight and a real environmental sensitivity. We wanted any green initiatives to be practical, have strong environmental outcomes and provide us with financial payback over time. The cogeneration unit provides us with these three criteria,” said Phillip Wolanski AM, Director of Denwol Group.
