From Challenge to Breakthrough: Transforming Hyperscale Data Centre Deployment with HARTING Han® Protect and Han-Eco®

In today’s digital-first world, data centres are the backbone of global connectivity. With the rising energy demands and sustainability goals, when a system integrator was tasked with upgrading a hyperscale data centre — without disrupting daily operations — they faced three critical challenges: limited space, tight deployment timelines, and increasing pressure to reduce energy consumption. Traditional cabling systems were bulky, slow to install, and prone to errors, putting uptime at risk.

To overcome these hurdles, the system integrator turned to HARTING’s Han-Eco® and Han® Protect connector solutions in transforming how data centres manage power and infrastructure.

The Han-Eco series offered a compact, lightweight housing perfect for tight rack layouts. Its modular design enabled pre-assembled cable harnessing for plug-and-play deployment, eliminating on-site wiring and reducing installation time by up to 40%. Additionally, the Han-Eco series’ modular inserts allow operators to design their systems to the exact power requirements their architecture needs, while minimizing the changes needed to support future power increases. This streamlined approach led to faster deployment, reduced cooling requirements, and lower energy consumption— all without sacrificing performance.

Meanwhile, Han Protect provided robust IP65/IP67 protection housings designed to safeguard vital connections from dust, moisture, vibration, and mechanical stress — a must-have in mission-critical data environments. Its rugged design ensures long-term reliability in both indoor and outdoor data centre conditions, supporting continuous power and signal transmission without compromise. The Han Protect unlocks the ability for plug-and-play PLC cabinets, eliminating the need for expensive controls engineers with limited availability during installation. The Han Protect is an M12 connector and fuse in one small footprint, which eliminates all in-cabinet field wiring — the wiring is completed at the manufacturing site! The PLC cabinet is therefore entirely plug-and-play. If there is ever a need to replace the fuse, the error can be identified and remediated by any technician — no need to locate controls engineers who can access the cabinet.

The result? Faster deployment, reduced carbon footprint, improved operational efficiency, and lower energy usage — a win-win for both business and the environment.

For today’s data centre professionals balancing cost, performance, and scalability, HARTING’s high-performance connectivity solutions empower smarter, more resilient infrastructure in the all-electric, digital age.
