The Yamasaki MEC mechanical splice is designed to stably connect and repair two fibre-optic cables. It allows shorter installation time, versatility and low optical loss and is suitable for quick fibre-optic connections out in the field during installation or repairs.
The mechanical splice can be used for various styles of fibre including aerial and burial on distribution, or alternatively used in conjunction with a pigtail to quickly add a connection in the field. It is suitable for both singlemode and multimode optical fibre with coatings of 250 or 900 µm.
Each splice has its own internal index matching gel and can be re-used up to five times. The design allows for the completion of a low loss joint without the need for additional tuning. They come supplied in a pack of five splices in a blister arrangement.
Features include: 0.1 dB typical insertion loss; 55 dB typical return loss; 0.02 dB typical PDL; 30 s installation time; tensile strength 4 Nm ; 25-year expected life; (L)40 mm x (W)4 mm x (H)5 mm dimensions; and -20 ~80°C operating temperature.
