Huber+Suhner fire-resistant, fibre-optic cable

Friday, 17 December, 2010 | Supplied by: Huber+Suhner Aust Pty Ltd

The Huber+Suhner fire-resistant, fibre-optic cable maintains circuit integrity for up to 180 min in the event of a fire. The breakout-style cable, commonly used for distribution installations, is constructed using 0.9 mm semitight tube inside a 2.0 mm Simplex construction with Aramide yarn for strain relief.

The cable has built-in separating tape and ripcord which enables easy on-site connector termination. The inner and outer sheath is made with low-smoke free of halogen (LSFHTM) material with a flame barrier separating the two. Fibre counts of 4, 8 and 12 fibre cores are available with singlemode (low bend or NZ-DS) or multimode fibres (OM2, OM3 low bend or OM4 low bend).

The 180 min fire resistance is tested according to IEC 60331-25, which makes the cable suitable for applications involving high safety requirements, such as tunnel installations, underground train cabling and buildings that require continued functionality in the event of fire. The cable is also available as a pre-terminated assembly with custom lengths and connectors. Indoor applications include data cable for distribution networks, horizontal and collapsed backbone cabling or installation in cable ducts.

The breakout cable has a service temperature range from -25 to +70°C. A loose tube variant with 90 min fire resistance is also available.
