Canon has launched the Canon XEED Compact Installation series projectors, which it claims retain the features and performance of full-size installation models.

The XEED WUX450 and WX520 both have a 1.8x optical zoom projection lens that is claimed to deliver virtually the same brightness throughout the zoom range. The projection lens has a constant aperture of F2.8, resulting in almost no loss of brightness at the telephoto end.

The lens employs the fifth-generation AISYS optical system, which maximises the performance of the LCOS (liquid crystal on silicon) panels. According to the company, LCOS technology produces fine, detailed images without the lattice effect sometimes seen on projectors.

The company has also launched two short throw models: the XEED WUX400ST and WX450ST. Based on the same hardware design as the WUX450 and WX520, these projectors include a Canon short throw projection lens, which enables system integrators to configure solutions with little distortion (typically 0.01%) and a throw ratio of less than 0.6:1.

This means that a 100″ image can be projected from 1.2 m - equivalent to around one-third of the throw distance required by conventional projectors. Despite the short focal length, the lens can produce images sizes from 30 to 300″ diagonal.

The lens is equipped with both vertical and horizontal shift. In the vertical direction, a wide range of 75% adjustment is available (77% on the WX450ST), enabling installation beneath or above the screen.
