Update to renewable energy connection standard
Wednesday, 23 October, 2024
The joint Technical Committee EL-042, Renewable Energy Power Supply Systems and Equipment has published a new version of AS/NZS 4777.1:2024, Grid connection of energy systems via inverters, Part 1: Installation requirements.
The updated standard will become mandatory six months from its publication date of 23 August 2024.
There are considerable updates in this new standard. Key changes include improved alignment and understanding of requirements for connection of an inverter energy system (IES) to an electrical installation. The new standard also now uses consistent terminology with the Wiring Rules.
The new terms ‘independent supply’ and ‘substitute supply’ have been introduced and defined, along with a section on multiple mode IES installation requirements, due to ongoing innovations in multiple mode IES.
Also addressed in the new standard is EV supply equipment capable of reverse power transfer. In the case of energy sources that have a dedicated installation standard, such as PV array and BESS, there has been the removal of duplicated requirements.
AS/NZS 4777.1:2024 is available from the Standards Australia Store.
