Solberg awarded environmental certification

Tuesday, 03 May, 2011

Solberg's firefighting foam research and manufacturing operation in Bergen, Norway, has been awarded Eco-Lighthouse certification, a status that is supported by the Norwegian Ministry of the Environment. The certification was granted through the Eco-Lighthouse Program, which is licensed by municipalities throughout Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland.

The Eco-Lighthouse qualification process, which took four months, involved key management and select employees at the Solberg operation. To begin the process, employees worked in collaboration with an independent consultant to conduct an environmental analysis of practices and procedures at the manufacturing facility there. They then formed 'environmental teams' to develop action plans and execute solutions to fulfil Eco-Lighthouse certification requirements.

Solberg’s environmental analysis and action plan focused on different areas including work environment, waste management, purchasing and resource management, and water consumption. Solberg, which is a supplier of firefighting foam concentrates and custom-designed foam suppression systems hardware and accessories globally, has a presence in Norway, Australia and the US.
