Product recall — Avanco DC isolators
Electrical workers and contractors performing work on solar photovoltaic systems are being reminded of recalled DC isolators that may still be installed.
The advice has been issued to inform electrical workers of the product recall on Avanco DC isolators and prohibitions issued by the Electrical Safety Office to prevent the supply or installation of the products.
Affected models of Avanco brand DC isolators:
- AV/DC4P25A
- AV/DC2P25A
- AV/DC4P25AUB
- AV/DC2P625AU
- AV/DC2P25AU
- AV/DC2/2P25AU
- AV/DC2/2P125AU
- AV/DC4P25AU
- AV/DC4P25AUS
- AV/DC4P25AUT
The prohibitions are in response to numerous incidents involving an internal fault that leads to overheating and fires. The defective isolators were sold in Queensland after 1 January 2012.
Workers conducting maintenance or repair work on solar power systems are being advised to check if Avanco brand DC isolators are installed, or any other recalled product found on the DC isolator safety advice webpage.
The recall of the isolators requires replacement of the entire device. including the associated enclosure. The switch mechanism has an inherent internal fault and the enclosure allows water ingress, both of which present a risk of fire.
Electrical workers are advised that just replacing the switch mechanism does not remove the electrical safety risk associated with the Avanco DC isolator.
