Nth Qld apprentice honoured for outstanding work

A Queensland-based fourth-year apprentice with Ampcontrol has been named ‘Electrical Apprentice of the Year – Mackay’ at the 10th Annual Tec-NQ Apprentice of the Year Gala.

Mitchell Cain was awarded the title in recognition of his strong work ethic, commitment to training and education, and use of leadership skills to help and mentor others within his team.

The Tec-NQ awards were held at The Ville Pavilion, Townsville, on 31 March 2023, with 30 finalists across 10 categories. Organised by Tec-NQ, a nationally accredited training program based in Townsville, Mackay and Cairns, the awards honour apprentices who are at the top of their class in electrical, engineering, carpentry and plumbing.

Todd Bailey, Ampcontrol Workshop Team Leader, said Cain was nominated by his supervisors for the award due to his outstanding work as an apprentice and his drive to learn.

“Mitch’s well-developed cognitive skills, knowledge and work ethic, as well as his outstanding commitment to training, led him to assist, support and lead others to complete jobs safely early on in his apprenticeship. He has been an outstanding apprentice [who has] a very bright future with Ampcontrol,” Bailey said.

“Mitchell’s ‘what can I do or how can I help someone else’ attitude has always impressed me,” said Service Operations Manager Stephen Dodd. “Whether it’s going to do a site job or something around the workshop, he has always completed tasks without hesitation.”

Ampcontrol has worked with Tec-NQ over the past four years, with Cain commencing his apprenticeship in 2019. Ampcontrol said the working relationship with Tec-NQ has given Ampcontrol employees the opportunity to receive world-class training while receiving vital job skills from working onsite.
