New NSW cabinet welcomed by Green Building Council

The Green Building Council of Australia (GBCA) has welcomed the new NSW cabinet.

“Our built environment is an essential driver of economic productivity, liveability and sustainability. We welcome Premier Mike Baird’s decision to place the infrastructure and environment portfolios in the hands of experienced and talented ministers,” said GBCA Chief Executive Romilly Madew.

“We are particularly pleased with the emphasis on infrastructure in the new Cabinet - with the Premier assuming the role of Minister for Infrastructure and the Deputy Premier, Andrew Stoner, taking on regional infrastructure.

“The NSW Government has also signalled the essential role of planning in the state’s future with the appointment of two ministers - Pru Goward as Minister for Planning and Rob Stokes as Assistant Minister for Planning.

“The appointment of Rob Stokes as Minister for the Environment, Minister for Heritage and Assistant Minister for Planning is a step towards the ‘joined-up’ thinking required to get the best outcomes for both our natural and built environments.

“Mr Stokes has a sound understanding of sustainability in the built environment and has been a long-time supporter of the GBCA, launching the Green Star - Communities rating tool in NSW and attending our recent industry workshop to determine the way forward for sustainability in the residential sector.

“We also acknowledge Robyn Parker’s hard work and close collaboration with the GBCA during her time as Minister for the Environment.

“We look forward to working with the Baird Government to create a policy environment that supports a more productive, liveable and sustainable future for the people of New South Wales.”
