Global Lighting Association elects Russell Loane as president
Russell Loane, the former chairman of Lighting Council Australia, has been elected as the president of the Global Lighting Association.
Based in Australia and active in the lighting industry for 40 years, Loane chaired Lighting Council Australia from its formation in 2007 until last year.
The Australian Government recognised Loane’s contribution to the lighting industry by conferring an Order of Australia award in the field of illuminating engineering in 2013.
Loane said a high priority in his new role will be to oversee implementation of the Global Lighting Association’s Strategic Roadmap for the lighting industry. The Strategic Roadmap, in final stages of preparation, sets ambitious goals for the industry based on acceptance by stakeholders of the benefits conferred by modern lighting beyond vision and energy efficiency.
Another goal is to facilitate the formation of a lighting association representing the ASEAN region.
Loane takes over from retiring president Jan Denneman from Lighting Europe, who led the association since its inception in 2007. At the same GLA board meeting, Chen Yansheng, president of the China Association of Lighting Industry (CALI), was elected vice president.
The Global Lighting Association is a grouping of national and regional lighting associations representing over 5000 lighting manufacturers and US$75 billion annual sales.
