Brightest Spark competition tackles electrical safety incidents

Master Electricians Australia (MEA) has launched a competition to encourage electrical safety in response to a spate of severe electrical safety incidents in NSW.

The Brightest Spark competition will allow electrical apprentices across the state to test their knowledge of electrical safety, with the aim of reducing electrical safety incidents in the workplace.

“NSW has had a number of electrical safety incidents take place in the past year involving apprentices. These tragedies could have been easily avoided through employing proper or stricter safety precautions and protocol in the workplace,” said MEA NSW State Manager Jody McGann.

“It is my firm belief that we need to begin early in educating electrical apprentices about the right safety procedures to employ when at work. If bad habits are practised in relation to electrical safety during apprenticeships, then these bad habits will be carried forward through to the workforce once apprentices graduate, and then again onto the next generation of apprentices who are taught by these same people.”

The Brightest Spark quiz is on MEA’s Facebook page and is open to all NSW electrical apprentices. Questions are based on apprenticeship level.

“We’ve got exclusive prizes up for grabs for the winner of each category and, as an added incentive, we’ll make sure winners stay in their boss’s good books and send their boss a prize too!” McGann said.
