Australian Smart Lighting Summit is on next month

Tuesday, 25 August, 2015

In September, leading Australian and international lighting experts will meet at the 3rd Annual Australian Smart Lighting Summit.

Leni Schwendinger, an international lighting designer and Associate Principal of Arup, with expertise in the illumination of architectural and public spaces around the world, will share insights on night-time lighting for urban spaces at the event to be held from 8–9 September at the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Schwendinger has worked on a number of interesting projects, including the Global Lighting Urbanist initiative that delves into the everyday night-time design of city districts for street lighting and public housing. In a recent interview she said, “Innovation and creativity for bringing light to public spaces all over the world energises architecture, landscape and urban infrastructure with the ultimate goal of connecting people to each other and their surroundings." Her vision is to create outdoor spaces that are conducive to social interaction, as well as promote the psychological wellbeing of people.

The Australian Lighting Summit will feature a number of different lighting design experts presenting on a variety of topics related to urban lighting. This includes: Michael Sparrow — Lend Lease; Paul Brown — Ironbark Sustainability; Sarah Linton — Senior Electrical Engineer; and Bruce Ramus — Ramus Illumination.

The summit is endorsed by City of Melbourne. For more information on the 3rd Annual Australian Smart Lighting Summit, visit www.lightingconference.com.au.
