Sydney company Power & Data Corporation has been recognised at the prestigious European Red Dot Design Awards, with its Mainline MLB Series Common Platform adapter acclaimed for design excellence in the Architectural category.

The adapter is the latest advance in the Mainline power track electrical distribution system, which allows flexible access to power as and where it is needed. Designed in Australia, the adapter is compliant with numerous global regions and can house a replaceable fuse, LED indicator and a switch for added safety.

Dr Peter Zec, design expert and initiator of the Red Dot Design Award, said the winning products impressed an international jury of experts: “The products stand out from the masses with their excellent design and innovative approaches and proved their quality in one of the toughest competitions worldwide.”

Simon Toovey, Managing Director, Power & Data Corporation, said: “The Red Dot Design Awards are one of the global benchmarks for quality design and we’re really pleased that Mainline has been recognised. We hope that the scalability of Mainline will set a precedent for future adaptations of the design.”

Mainline power track products have achieved recent success in both Australia and in key markets overseas. In March, a $1 million order for Mainline came from the United Kingdom.

In Australia, more than 200 schools have installed or specified Mainline power track in classrooms, libraries and laboratories in the past 18 months through the federal government’s economic stimulus packages.

In this year’s Red Dot Design Awards, designers and companies from 57 nations with a total of 4252 products took part in the Product Design category.

The Mainline MLB Series Common Platform adapter has also been announced as a finalist in the Australian International Design Awards 2010 in the category of Housing and Building.
