ABB Australia has acquired Bob White Electrix and LE Jarvis for an undisclosed amount as part of a strategy to broaden its motor and generator repair and service business in Australia. ABB anticipates the acquisition will close in July.

ABB currently has one service workshop in Brisbane; the acquisition will add two Victorian workshops and one West Australian workshop to its business. The company says the acquisition complements its motor sales portfolio and will enable it to service customers across Australia.

Perth-based company LE Jarvis has specialised in rewind, repair, maintenance and overhaul of industrial motors and generators since 1967. Bob White Electrix is reportedly a leader in the field of generator and motor repairs, including very large machines up to 230 tons.

ABB says it will retain all existing staff from its three current sites. The acquisition will enable ABB to provide a range of services: AC and DC motor and generator maintenance and repairs; coil manufacturing; dynometer load testing; eddy current couplings and brakes; hazardous area equipment repair; high-speed balancing; low-speed balancing; and on-site services.

“This acquisition strengthens ABB’s ability to offer first-class service capabilities for all sizes of motors and generators across the country,” said Axel Kuhr, Country Manager of ABB Australia. “It will enable our current field service team to draw on the experience of nearly 100 additional resources and will establish ABB as a leader in generator and motor repairs.”
