The CompactBlock Guard I/O on EtherNet/IP series are safety I/O modules equipped with EtherNet/IP connectivity. The 1791ES-IB16 and the 1791ES-IB8XOBV4 modules allow users to streamline network architectures by employing industry-standard EtherNet/IP protocol for all safety, standard and motion control communications.

Rated to Safety Integrity Level 3 (SIL3)/Category 4, the new CompactBlock Guard I/O on EtherNet/IP series uses Common Industrial Protocol (CIP) Safety, making it compatible with standard ethernet infrastructure devices including wired and wireless technologies.

Importantly, the CompactBlock Guard I/O modules allow users to control and monitor devices using a single data communications network for factory-floor standard and safety control, which also includes enterprise-level business management systems.

The 1791ES-IB16 is equipped with 16 inputs, while the 1791ES-IB8XOBV4 comes with eight inputs and four dual-channel, bipolar, high-current outputs.

The modules can be configured to accommodate both low- and high-current applications (up to 2 A). The unit’s high-current, solid-state outputs eliminate the need for the interposing relays normally required for such high-current applications. This saves panel space and reduces installation and maintenance costs, while providing improved reliability.

For low-current applications (up to 1 A), users can achieve SIL3/Category 4 status using a single bipolar output. With multi-output capabilities, the versatile series is designed for a variety of industrial safety applications, including robotics, point of operation, guard monitoring and remote control.

The modules are equipped with up to 16 integrated pulse testing/standard outputs, which can be configured to detect wiring or device faults and are provided with comprehensive LED diagnostics. The modules also feature removable keyed terminal blocks and ‘remove/install under power (RIUP)’ capabilities, which simplify installation and streamline system maintenance and module changeovers.
