Safety issue notice — self-retracting lanyards

Thursday, 05 November, 2015

MSA Australia has advised a potential safety issue with its 9 and 15 m Workman self-retracting lanyards (SRLs). The affected products bear MSA Part Nos 10120723 and 10121777 and were manufactured from January through August 2015.

MSA has advises that a small percentage of Workman 9 and 15 m SRLs may have an improper brake nut tongue setting. SRLs with this condition may not arrest a user’s fall or may not arrest it within the specified maximum arrest distance.

The product was sold nationally from safety suppliers and apparel stores between 1 January and 31 August 2015. Purchasers are advised to immediately mark all affected SRLs “UNUSABLE” and then discard them or return them to MSA, unless they pass a special inspection.

SRLs that pass the special inspection may be used until 30 April 2016 but then must be marked “UNUSABLE” and discarded or returned to MSA. Additionally, purchasers are asked to cut the cable on any SRLs that are discarded to ensure that they cannot be used.
