Raise awareness on Workers' Memorial Day

Safe Work Australia

Thursday, 09 April, 2015

Tuesday, 28 April 2015 is World Day for Safety and Health at Work and Workers' Memorial Day, and Safe Work Australia is asking Australians to remember those who have died because of workplace incidents and disease and help prevent future deaths by raising the awareness of work health and safety.

According to preliminary data, 185 workers were killed while at work in 2014 and the deaths of these workers affected not only family members, friends and colleagues but the broader community.

By raising the awareness of work health and safety we can help prevent workplace incidents and death.

SWA suggests the following ways to get involved:

  • Attend a memorial event in your state or territory.
  • Observe a minute’s silence to remember those who have died.
  • Organise a morning/afternoon tea to talk about work health and safety.
  • Arrange for a safety expert to speak at your workplace.
  • Host a toolbox talk.
