Intrinsically safe power supply

Wednesday, 02 September, 2009 | Supplied by: Endress+Hauser Australia Pty Ltd

The RN221N combined active barrier and power supply is SIL2 rated and provides galvanic isolation for the 4 to 20 mA measured signal. It is suitable for use in hazardous areas and can be powered by 20 to 250 VAC/DC, reducing the need for different versions across the plant.

The front-mounted HART communication sockets allow easy access to obtain information or reprogram the instrument without removing it or disconnecting the wires.

HART diagnosis can be selected with the DIP switch, allowing the user to: monitor the 4 to 20 mA signal for compliance with NAMUR NE43; evaluate the HART status byte to alarm when the connected device is in error mode; and check the Endress+Hauser (E+H) diagnostic command, for early warning of changed process conditions with E+H devices.

Easy to install, the device features a 22.5 mm width and compact DIN rail mount.

The power supply is offered with an IEC Ex ia rating, making it suitable for use in hazardous areas or for intrinsically safe solutions.
