Victorian 2010 NECA Excellence Awards

The best of Victoria’s talented and committed workers in the electrotechnology industry were recognised at the annual Excellence Awards hosted by peak industry body NECA on 16 July.

The 2010 NECA Excellence Awards is an opportunity for the industry to officially recognise the talent and achievements of electrical and communication contractors in Victoria.

Ten companies received the top state award in front of over 150 industry representatives including contractors, educators and government representatives at the pinnacle showcase of the electrical and communications industry at Crown Casino.

Chief Executive Officer of NECA’s Victoria chapter, Philip Green, said the winning 10 companies were chosen because of their commitment to excellence, significant engineering achievements and importantly, finishing the complex jobs on time and in budget: “The projects that the winning companies completed were just phenomenal.

“As the electrotechnology industry continues to grow and tackle new technological challenges, it is encouraging to see that Victorian electrical and communication contractors are leading the country in everything from occupational health and safety through to energy efficiency and the wiring of smart homes.”

The winning companies and their projects were:

  • Domestic Residence category: Urban Intelligence for private residence in Malvern;
  • Small Contracting Business category: New Wave Electrical Contractors for Royan Truck & Trailer Repairs;
  • Environment and Energy Efficiency category: Corke Instrument Engineering (Aust) for Bogong Hydro Power Station;
  • Occupational Health and Safety category: Nilsen (Vic) for development of OH&S policy;
  • Industrial Project category 5: Downer EDI Engineering Electrical for Iona Gas Plant at Port Campbell;
  • Voice/Data - Small Project (less than $500,000) category: Newscom for VicUrban
  • Voice/Data - Large Project (greater than $500,000) category: Stowe Australia for ANZ Headquarters in Melbourne Docklands;
  • Commercial - Small Project less than ($500,000) category: Fire Solutions for Reserve Bank of Australia;
  • Commercial - Medium Project (more than $500,000 and less than $2 million) category: Downer EDI Engineering Electrical for National Ice Sports Centre - Icehouse; and
  • Commercial - Large Project (greater than $2 million) category: KLM Group for South Wharf Development.
