Sustainable Buildings Research Centre wins Master Builders' award
The University of Wollongong has been awarded the National Environment and Energy Efficiency Commercial Building Award for its Sustainable Buildings Research Centre.
The award, presented as part of the Master Builders National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards, recognises the centre’s innovative and sustainable design and its construction by building contractor Baulderstone (now Lend Lease).
The Sustainable Buildings Research Centre also won the Energy and Resource Efficiency Award and Tertiary Building Award ($10-20m) in the Master Builders Association of NSW’s 2013 MBA Excellence in Construction Awards.
“The Sustainable Buildings Research Centre was designed to push the envelope of sustainable design,” said Lance Jeffery, Project Manager of the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre.
“The end result is the outcome of a terrific team effort between the university and our architects, builders and consultants. We are very proud the Master Builders has recognised the contribution our centre makes to a more sustainable environment.”
If the centre attains its target of a 6 Star Green Star design rating, it would become the first building in the Illawarra region to achieve such a rating. It also aims to be Australia’s first ‘living building’ under the international Living Building Challenge program.
Due to be officially opened in early 2014, the centre was designed by Cox Richardson Architects. More information on the centre is available from www.sbrc.uow.edu.au.
