Speakers announced for May built environment event

Full speaker programs have been announced for a suite of built environment events coming up in May at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) — Be Summit, DesignBUILD, Total Facilities and Digital Construction Week.

Attendees can choose between sessions from over 90 experts covering the latest innovations and information across a broad range of topics relating to planning, construction and facilities management. Sessions include “Smart Buildings — How any building can become a thinking building”, “The Race to Reduce Embodied Carbon” and “How to Make Existing Buildings Fit for the Future”.

Speakers include Simon Croft, Executive Director – Building Policy & Services, Housing Industry Association; Nicole Garofano, Head Of Circular Economy Development, Planet Ark; Tim McCarthy, Director of the Sustainable Buildings Research Centre, University of Wollongong; and Lisa Hogben, from the National Association of Women in Construction and Metro Trains Melbourne.

Commercial Manager Lynn Ormiston said that given the unprecedented change the built environment is experiencing, now is a critical time to come together and discuss the future. “With the challenges presented by COVID and ongoing digital disruption, keeping on the forefront of industry education is vital,” she said.

“These events provide educational forums as well as allowing the stimulating discussions to continue on the show floor, which can drive the industry forward.”

Sessions held at the DesignBUILD Theatre, the Design Construction Week Theatre and The Smart Buildings Theatre are all free and held within the same MCEC space on 10, 11 and 12 May. The Be Summit is a ticketed one-day event held on Friday, 13 May.
