Solar grid-connect training for electricians
Glen Morris, founder of SolarQuip, will be running a four-day accreditation course in partnership with Skillbuild Training at CERES Community Environment Park, Melbourne, from 15-18 September.
This course will deliver the three units of competency required by the CEC (Clean Energy Council) for grid-connect accreditation for electricians. Those who may already be accredited but wish to update their skills can enrol in this course too. Morris is a member of the Australian Standards Committee that produces AS/NZS 5033 and AS 4777 - the standards for grid-connected solar installations. The course has been designed for licensed electricians who want to obtain accreditation from the CEC. This will enable them to access incentives offered by the federal government for solar panel installations.
The training will be delivered through a combination of technical/theoretical training, and workshop practical training and assessment. The course covers the essential knowledge and skills required to meet industry requirements. The training, carried out over four days, requires some pre-course work and includes individual time with the trainer to collect evidence for Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer if applicable.
Upon completion, the attendees will be able to apply for accreditation with the Clean Energy Council. Accreditation allows you to: create STCs for customers; access feed-in tariffs offered by supply authorities; make installation costs lower for your customers; follow a recognised code for installation; use the CEC logo on advertising; access a restricted technical support website run by CEC.
The course units are those specified by the CEC which will enable you to apply for accreditation if you successfully achieve the required competencies. The current requirements are for three units to be completed.
