Smart Energy Training Centre launched

South Australian Treasurer and Energy Minister Tom Koutsantonis has launched a new Smart Energy Training Centre with the aim to upskill workers for South Australia’s renewables boom.

The training centre is part of a nationwide project to provide workers with the skills and training they need to take advantage of Australia’s rapidly expanding solar, energy storage and smart energy industry.

The Smart Energy Training Centre is an industry-first collaboration between the Australian Solar Council, the Energy Storage Council and registered training organisations. The centre will be operated by South Australian training firm Green Business Audit and Training.

“South Australia is upgrading to smart energy. There is an increasing demand for high-tech skills in energy storage and energy management. Over 4500 jobs are being created, and we need a skilled workforce who can fill those roles,” said John Grimes, CEO of the Australian Solar Council.

“We need our workers to have the best and most comprehensive knowledge of new products and equipment. At the Smart Energy Training Centre, students will have access to the latest state-of-the-art technologies from leading Australian and international brands.

“The Smart Energy Training Centre will provide a range of flexible accredited and professional development courses, and will provide workers with the skills they need to become part of Australia’s growing renewables industry. The centre will support all parts of the value chain — from manufacturers and designers to retailers and installers.

“Renewables are delivering great results for South Australian jobs and the economy. Estimated investment for proposed renewable projects is over $9 billion, and thousands of jobs are being created. South Australia is at the forefront of smart energy, and now we will have access to the skills and training to keep us there,” Grimes said.
