Report assesses the future of the Aust PV industry

Friday, 21 March, 2014

Interested to know how ARENA, the RET Review and the carbon price will affect the PV industry? SunWiz and SolarBusinessServices have released a collaborative report: Australian PV - Market Forecast 2013-2018.

Now in its fifth year of production, the report is produced by two of the country’s leading analysts. According to the companies, last year’s report correctly forecast the volume of the Australian market with 98% accuracy.

Finalised in March 2014, the report looks ahead for five years, under three different scenarios, and takes into account the latest intelligence on programs, markets, electricity prices and incentives. It includes economic modelling under a variety of scenarios and compares the outcomes to historical up-take rates and changing consumer sentiment.

With the Renewable Energy Target (RET) under attack, a focus of the report is analysing and forecasting a variety of potential outcomes depending on what could happen to the RET.

The ACT program, ARENA (Australian Renewable Energy Agency) and the CEFC (Clean Energy Finance Corporation) all have the potential to substantially grow specific market segments, the authors say, but their success or otherwise depends on a key list of factors.

In the report, the One Million Solar Roofs program is also assessed for its probable impact on the market.

The authors say contraction is expected in the Australian PV industry, but growth is expected in some market segments. “The most successful solar companies in Australia will be those who know where and when it’s predicted to happen, can strategically plan for those opportunities and avoid the segments that will suffer,” the authors wrote.
