PV arrays standard open for public comment

Standards Australia has released a revised version of AS/NZS5033 Installation and safety requirements for photovoltaic (PV) arrays for public comment.

“The objective of the revised standard is to improve the safety of photovoltaic (PV) arrays,” said Colin Blair, CEO, Standards Australia.

AS/NZS 5033 was originally published in July 2012 and this latest revision provides greater clarity on a number of issues. Some of the major changes which require feedback from stakeholders include: the addition of DC to DC conditioning units; new provisions for micro inverters; PV module frame earthing requirements; clarification regarding cable protection and cable routing through buildings.

This standard sets out general installation and safety requirements for photovoltaic (PV) arrays, including wiring, electrical protection devices, switching and earthing. The purpose of the standard is to address the safety requirements arising from PV arrays in systems.

“The public comment process is fundamental to the integrity of Australian Standards. We would encourage interested stakeholders and technical experts to contribute to the public comment process,” Blair said.

This standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee EL-042, Renewable Energy Power Supply Systems and Equipment. The public comment period closes on 28 October 2013.
