New licence for electrical business restructure

Business owners should be aware that they may need a new licence after restructuring, according to the Queensland Electrical Safety Office.

It said that those who have held their electrical contractor licence as an individual or partnership and subsequently restructured their business as a company may now need a new electrical contractor licence in the name of the company.

New licence applications require a nominated qualified technical person (QTP) or qualified business person (QBP) to meet new training requirements introduced on 1 July 2018. QTP nominees will also need to hold a current Queensland electrical work licence.

Business owners will also need to have public liability insurance that meets the requirements of section 51 of the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 in the name of their company.
