Local business recognised for strong apprenticeship record

An Albury/Wodonga business has been recognised for its supportive and well-rounded training of apprentices.

Boschetti, a company dealing in the full spectrum of traditional electrical services as well as the green energy space, has been named as a finalist in the Australian Apprentice Employment Network (AEN) Awards Large Host Employer category.

The award recognises an employer’s commitment to the Apprenticeship and Group Training system along with the quality of training delivered to apprentices.

Founder Robert Boschetti, who has been working in the electrical industry in Albury/Wodonga for over 20 years, said he believed the company’s ability to offer a thorough education in both traditional electrical trade and green energy makes it an employer of choice. Boschetti also sticks to a strict trade-to-apprentice ratio and rotates the apprentices through different sub-specialisations.

Boschetti credited Kestrel Recruitment with helping him to find and employ apprentices. As a Group Training Organisation, Kestrel recruits and employs apprentices, then places them with host employers such as Boschetti.

This relationship means that Kestrel takes care of administrative, training and employment responsibilities, allowing Boschetti to concentrate on its core business and apprentice training.

“Kestrel presents us with the shortlist and conducts the background checks. They have worked closely with us ever since and understand our needs. They just want to help, and it’s fantastic to have them on our team,” Boschetti said.

While having skilled and experienced staff is vital for his own company, Boschetti said it was also about giving back to the industry.

“I’ve got a duty to return qualified competent personnel into the industry. Not just for our business but for all businesses. As a company we have a clear strategic plan, and it includes training. We take it seriously in the sense that we create our legacy by challenging the existing legacy,” he said.
