Board shuffle for nbn

The Australian Government has appointed Michael Malone as a director to the board of NBN Co Limited (nbn) for a term of three years.

He will replace Internode founder Simon Hackett, who has resigned to focus on his role at Redflow Limited.

Malone, who served as iiNet’s CEO from 1993 to 2014, took on the role as non-executive director to nbn’s board as of 20 April.

In a joint statement, Communications Minister Mitch Fifield and Finance Minister Mathias Corman welcomed Malone to nbn.

“The Ministers congratulate Mr Malone on his appointment and look forward to his involvement with the nbn board, as it guides the rollout of the National Broadband Network to every Australian home and business by 2020,” they said.

In addition to Malone’s well-documented entrepreneurial know-how, the Ministers also said he brings “strong strategic acumen, business development and management experience to the board”. 

Malone is currently a director of a number of telecommunications and media companies, including Seven West Media.
