AMMA’s Migration and Labour Sourcing Conference on tomorrow

Migrant worker issues will be the focus of the AMMA (Australian Mines and Metals Association) Migration and Labour Sourcing Conference, to be held tomorrow in Brisbane.

Attendees will hear from all sides of the skilled migration debate in the wake of the industry’s first enterprise migration agreement (EMA). The conference will comprise a full day of presentations and panel sessions.

Highlights include:

  • Immigration Minister Chris Bowen and Shadow Immigration Minister Scott Morrison outline their respective parties’ policy plans for skilled migration
  • A panel debate on EMAs and temporary migrant workers featuring industry, union and government representatives
  • Labour market forecasting and industry analysis looking at how many workers and migrants the industry needs to fill skills shortages
  • Discussion of the impact of proposed changes to the Living Away from Home Allowance
  • A lesson on managing public perception of skilled migration
