ACCC gives the nod to revised solar retailer code of conduct
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has granted reauthorisation to the Clean Energy Council (the Council) for its revised Solar Retailer Code of Conduct for a further five years.
The Council’s code of conduct manager, Anna Sexton, said the scheme works to improve standards in the solar industry by requiring ethical sales practices and a standard five-year warranty on products and workmanship.
“The Clean Energy Council introduced the Approved Solar Retailer scheme almost two years ago to help raise the bar in the solar industry and give consumers peace of mind and confidence when buying from participating businesses,” said Sexton.
“Solar retailers must meet a very strict set of requirements in order to be accepted to the scheme, and consumers can be assured that they are dealing with the best in the solar business when purchasing from a company displaying the ‘Approved Solar Retailer’ logo.”
Solar retailers voluntarily sign up to the code in order to meet best practice standards. The revised scheme now covers providers of solar leases and solar power purchasing agreements, reflecting developments in the industry to offer new finance models to consumers.
“Ensuring that solar retailers, as well as other industry participants, strive to improve standards of practice is important for consumers as household solar panels are a significant purchase,” said Delia Rickard, ACCC deputy chair.
“Achieving higher standards in the industry will increase consumer confidence, enable consumers to make better decisions and enhance compliance as the industry grows.”
