Fibre-optic light source

Optical fibre is increasing in popularity for both business and residential use due to its bandwidth potential and services such as FTTH. Due to the increasing popularity, more cabling contractors must possess and use suitable testing instruments to ensure optical fibres are installed and operating correctly.

When the Kingfisher KI7827B optical light source with APC (angled physical connection) is used in conjunction with the KI7600 optical power meter, together they can test loss on singlemode optical fibre systems.

Applications include:

  • Commissioning FTTH;
  • Measuring loss on singlemode communications systems;
  • System power testing;
  • Attenuation testing;
  • Fault finding and continuity testing;
  • General fibre-optic testing and maintenance.

Features of the product include:

  • Light source has 1310, 1490 and 1550 nm wavelengths;
  • Power meter is compatible with both single and multimode wavelengths;
  • Flexible real-time PC reporting software;
  • Interchangeable connectors;
  • Autotest compatibility with other instruments;
  • Metal-free adapters avoid contamination of connectors in high-power systems;
  • Measures absolute and relative light levels and test tones in fibre-optic systems;
  • The meter displays mW, μW, nW, dB, dBm to 0.01 dB resolution, with no range changing delays. A separate reference for each λ is stored and displayed.
