Axis Communications ARTPEC-9 SoC

Axis Communications’ ARTPEC-9 system on chip (SoC) is designed to address key challenges in today’s security surveillance systems.

For security operators, timely and accurate detection in complex environments is essential. The device delivers improvements in AI analytics for sharper image quality and faster detection of smaller objects, which can help prevent incidents and enhance operational efficiency in various sectors, including public safety, retail and transportation. Additionally, the support for AV1 helps reduce bandwidth and storage needs.

In challenging lighting conditions, capturing clear images is critical for effective surveillance. The SoC builds on Axis’s existing imaging technologies like Axis Lightfinder 2.0 and Axis Forensic WDR, with the aim of providing clear, detailed images regardless of the environment.

Cybersecurity features like secure boot and signed OS are designed to protect each device from cyberthreats. Since these devices are developed in-house, Axis retains full control over the production process, further strengthening device security. Enhanced AI analytics allow for better detection of objects at greater distances. This can lead to earlier alerts, enabling security teams to take action before incidents escalate.

Introduction of the AV1 video encoding standard helps reduce bandwidth and storage requirements, an important factor in large-scale surveillance operations. Combined with Axis’s Zipstream technology, this allows for more efficient video management both on-premises and in the cloud. Already supported by Axis Camera Station, AV1 integration is also expanding across major video management platforms like Genetec and Milestone.
