Making the gate automation industry safer

After a worker in NSW was fatally crushed by an automatic gate last year, there have been calls to drastically improve the safety of gate automation in Australia.

Q Power has just been named as an accredited distributor and installer of Holler VARO cantilever gate systems, joining Downee’s installer network as one of three companies selected to service the entire Queensland region. Downee owns the exclusive agreement to supply Holler VARO cantilever gates in Australia and New Zealand.

Holler systems meet the stringent, industry-leading European safety regulations not yet reached in Australia. The Austrian-based gate manufacturer is a global leader in high-tech gate design and manufacturing, with the likes of Airbus, Siemens and the Royal Air Force (RAF) utilising the company’s high-end security solutions.

Along with reduced lead times, smooth installations and a modular construction to streamline freight and logistics, Holler offers safety features that help to prevent gates from injuring people and damaging vehicles, material and equipment.

Though Australia is yet to match European standards in gate automation safety, as a growing industry that has already seen a number of injuries and deaths, it is likely the country will adopt stricter measures.

“The gate automation industry is still a young, growing market in Australia,” said Paul Devlin, Territory Sales Manager at Downee.

“It is only a matter of time before we see a more regulated market with safety at the forefront of mind, like we and our partners believe it should be.

“By choosing a Downee-accredited installer and a Holler gate system, you can be assured that your gate complies with industry-leading safety regulations.

“When looking for professional partners, we look for those with exceptional customer service, several years’ industry experience, and dedication to improving the gate automation industry throughout Australia and New Zealand.

“Q Power is a company Downee has always respected. Their wealth of experience in the electrical and gate automation industry, coupled with their moral compass to provide safe and reliable systems to the public, is in line with the values we share.”

“We are excited and extremely proud to have been chosen by Downee as one of three companies to introduce Holler’s world-class gate systems to Queensland,” Q Power’s Managing Director Mike Walsh said.

“This will help us to provide the commercial and industrial sectors with a product that far exceeds the features and benefits of existing automatic gate solutions available in the market.”
