The Prysmian Group has won the Frost & Sullivan 2015 European New Product Innovation Award for its BendBrightXS optical fibre.

The cable manufacturing company was recognised in the Single Mode Optical Fibers category for its product development that leveraged new technologies.

BendBrightXS fibre is considered the first-ever commercialised bend-immune singlemode optical fibre, with a bend improvement of almost 100 times compared to standard technologies.

The product, initially designed for FTTH deployment, is suitable for a variety of network configurations, combining a low macro-bending sensitivity (G.657.A2 compliant) and industry reference micro-bending performance, while still preserving all the features of regular singlemode fibre (G.652.D compliant).

“We are extremely proud of this award, which recognises our global leadership in the design and manufacturing of optical fibres and innovative solutions,” said Prysmian Group Executive Vice President, Telecom Business Philippe Vanhille.

“The BendBright suite of products really offers incomparable versatility and sets the scene for future innovations, offering full compliance with higher forecasted system transmission rates, higher wavelength operation, in all the transmission bands which are offered by optical fibre, securing the spectrum potential and converting it into genuine broadband.”

Frost & Sullivan presented 35 accolades to industry leaders and innovators during the 2015 Growth, Innovation & Leadership Awards Banquet held in London last month. The evening highlighted superlative achievements across information and communications technologies; industrial automation; automotive; chemicals and materials; health care; energy and environment; as well as aerospace, defence and security.
